Rural Roots Fundraiser

Gord Bamford is an international recording artist, Canadian country music superstar, and multi-award winning singer and songwriter. He picks guitar and pens songs with some of the best musical talent in the world. He is ever more selected to share the stage with an extraordinary list of artists including Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, and the legendary George Strait. Gord Bamford is living his childhood dream.

Gord grew up near Lacombe, Alberta and spent many hours keeping busy with school and chores. Raising two children on her own, Gord’s mother recognized the need and importance of community opportunities in the social and personal development of her children. Gord and his sister became engaged in a variety of community organizations and activities where their experiences yielded a sense of belonging and purpose. The most profound for Gord was 4-H. Like most kids, Gord could not foresee the impact that 4-H values and vision would have on his life. He was merely having fun with friends. Yet, underlying the fun, Gord was learning invaluable life lessons – responsibility and leadership, preservation of country life, and service to community. Little did he know those 4-H values would lead him down a path of remarkable success and an even deeper sense of worldly purpose.

It is no wonder that there is another dream Gord is beginning to fulfill – the dream of building communities and helping kids. Like many successful artists, Gord wants to ‘give back’. Unlike many, Gord is pursuing that dream with resolve, commitment, and true ambition. In 2008, he established the Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation. In two short years, Gord’s team raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars. All the Foundation’s proceeds are distributed to youth serving organizations. The mission of the Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation is:

To offer under-privileged youth and single parent families in Canada an equal opportunity in life by providing monies to support education, health care, and music.

Furthermore, it is the goal of the Foundation to improve local communities in Canada through the construction or improvement of multi-use facilities dedicated to the youth of an area.

Gord BamfordClearly, a partnership between Gord Bamford, the artist and philanthropist, and 4-H, the century-old, icon of rural youth organizations, is a natural fit. Bamford is set to release his 5th and newest record in March 2010. In a unique collaboration, 4-H Clubs across Canada will use this new release as a cornerstone in its fundraising program. Fundraising profits from CD sales will be re-invested in local 4-H Clubs and their programs.

Gord Bamford is giving back again – this time to the organization that helped his head to think, heart to be true, hands to be useful, and health to be devoted to home and community service.

 4-H Fundraising Program

Gord Bamford’s Christmas CD available through Alberta 4-H Clubs
In keeping with his Rural Roots Run Deep partnership with Alberta 4-H, Gord Bamford is making his first ever Christmas CD available for sale through local 4-H clubs.

The CDs will be sold on a pre-order basis for $20 each. Of that sale, $5 will be going back to each 4-H club selling the CDs, and another $5 will go directly to a charitable organization of that club’s choice.

“Many of the people skills, confidence and work ethic I developed through 4-H have made my musical journey possible. This is just another way for me to support a rural organization that made a difference to me at a critical part of my life,” says Bamford.

The CD titled, “Gord Bamford’s Country Christmas” will not be available for retail sales until fall, 2012. Bamford wanted to give the 4-H organization the opportunity to sell the CDs so that they could help with their annual fundraising efforts.

“As a 4-H Alumni, and through his willingness to ‘meet and greet’ with 4-H members, Gord is providing inspiration that it is possible to live your dream,” says Bruce Banks, CEO of the 4-H Foundation of Alberta. His organization is championing The Rural Roots Run Deep project with Bamford, which is now into its second year.

“The person you see on stage is not different than the person you go and have a coffee with,” says Banks of Bamford’s personality. “We are thrilled to partner with Gord, and to give Alberta 4-H members the chance to be one of the first to sell his Christmas CD.”

For Bamford, he wants kids to know that 4-H is all about learning to do by doing. “You never succeed on your own,” says Bamford. “The music business is a people business. You have to develop a team of people and business partnerships that obviously make sense, but most importantly in the music business, you need partnerships of people who really believe in what you’re doing. 4-H gives me that support.”

Beginning November 25th, Bamford is launching a 12-date Christmas concert tour across Alberta. Some of the 4-H members participating in selling CDs may have the unique opportunity to meet Gord before one of his concerts. These meet and greets called “Mentoring Sessions”, will have Bamford talking directly with clubs and kids about his 4-H experience and also his experience in becoming a country music artist in Canada.

November 28th is the deadline to pre-order the Gord Bamford’s Country Christmas CD through your local Alberta 4-H club. More information is available at www.gordbamford.com and www.4h.ab.ca.
